What’s the Easiest Way to Pack for a Move?

Sometimes it’s easy to say goodbye to your old abode. The hard part comes when it’s time to pack up your belongings. It’s also easy to be overwhelmed by the sheer amount of stuff you have to pack just before your move.

At Happy Helpers Moving Co, we know a thing or two about the packing process and how to make it easier and more efficient. Check out these packing tips and let your next move be faster and less stressful.

Ditch the Extras

We’ve all accumulated plenty of junk in our lives and chances are, you have too. Now is the perfect time to do a little pre-move housecleaning and ditch all of the stuff you don’t need to bring with you. Take stock of what you currently have right now, including what you’ll need for your new place and what you think you can let go of.

Not everything has to go in the dumpster, however. Depending on what you’re getting rid of, you can put it up for sale or donate it to a local charity and get a tax deduction, to boot.

Start With the Basics

With the clutter out of the way, start by packing the items you want to bring with you but won’t use anytime soon. That includes holiday decorations and other seasonal items. Organize your boxes by room and function, as it makes combining packed items easier.

Simplify Your Packing

With packing, there’s no need to overthink things. Instead of boxing every single item, you can use a wide array of shortcuts to simplify the moving process and save valuable time, effort and boxes. After all, the key is to work smarter, not harder.

Instead of emptying out your dresser drawers, for example, leave your clothes inside and wrap the entire dresser in plastic wrap to keep them from flying out. Using a wardrobe box lets you keep your clothes on hangers, especially those items you don’t want to fold or wrinkle during the move.

Reuse and Recycle

Another great way to pack is by reusing the things you already own. For instance, repurpose your linens and towels as extra cushioning for glassware and other fragile items. You can also use your luggage set in lieu of boxes. You’d be surprised at what fits inside of a hard-shell suitcase!

Always Label Your Boxes

Labels may not make the world go round, but they’ll definitely help you keep track of your belongings. Label each box by room and the items inside. Don’t forget to make a list of everything inside each box.

Pace Yourself

Instead of trying to tackle everything at once, set aside an hour each day for packing. You can choose the time of day or even add a few more minutes of packing, if you’d like. This way, you’ll never feel overwhelmed or be tempted to wait until the last minute.

You don’t have to run yourself ragged when it comes to moving. Many people make that mistake and end up waiting until the last minute.
